Dutch Names for Tools - Words List - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 words

The definite article ('the') in Dutch is either 'de' (for 'male' and 'female' words, and for all plurals) or 'het' (for singular, 'neutral' words.) 'Het' is sometimes shortened to "'t." Dimunitives (ending in '-je') are always 'neutral,' but otherwise you'll just have to memorize which are the 'de'- and 'het'-words.
The indefinite article ('a') in Dutch is "een," in writing sometimes shortenened to "'n." For emphasis 'één' (one) is used.

Notes

The E in 'Vulpen' click to hear 2 is not 'voiceless,' like E's in this position usually are, but 'short,' because it is a compound word (vul-pen).
'Vliegmachine' (airplane) is a bit old-fashioned. The common word is 'vliegtuig' click to hear
'Bougie' click to hear (spark plug) is from the French ('candle,') and its G and OU are not pronounced in the common Dutch way. In the early days of the automobile French was still the world language.
